On June 22 TechCrunch is holding its first start-up meetup + pitch-off in Tel Aviv, presented by Israeli technology banking group Leumi Tech and Israel public relations agency Blonde 2.0.
"Israel remains one of the world’s key producers of startups and cutting-edge technology, so it would be remiss of us not to get the TechCrunch community together there," TechCrunch stated in its announcement of the event.
As part of the event, former Israeli president Shimon Peres will make an address, likely reiterating his former remarks about the Jewish state's start-up nation reputation that “in Israel, a land lacking in natural resources, we learned to appreciate our greatest national advantage: our minds. Through creativity and innovation, we transformed barren deserts into flourishing fields and pioneered new frontiers in science and technology.”
In the event, the following 10 Israeli and international startup pitches will be judged by eminent members of the tech community:
ChippedIn: A new crowdsourcing platform for gifts.
Eco-Fusion: Develops mobile apps that help manage and prevent chronic diseases such as stress, anxiety, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
Fido: Fido Money Lending Limited (FIDO) is a Ghanaian financial institution providing short-term loans, known as FIDO loans, that applicants can receive after applying directly from a smartphone.
FieldIn: Specializes in optimizing integrated pest management in orchards, groves, and vineyards.
Fitfully: Using a 3D foot model, this company's technology allows people to measure their shoe size with a scanner through a mobile device, which in turns helps people buy shoes online.
Lip: An online platform for user generated video owners who want to sell their videos to media outlets around the world.
Mego: An Israeli service that delivers packages from the post office to any location of the recipient's choice.
