( The Simon Wiesenthal Center’s European office, the Russian Holocaust Center of Moscow and Verbe et Lumiere criticized Ukrainian authorities Monday for replacing a plaque at Babi Yar identifying the thousands of Jews murdered there during the Holocaust with an epitaph deleting all Jewish references.

Critics called the move “revisionist history.” The Wiesenthal Center’s director of international relations Shimon Samuels called the change of the plaque a “memoricide” that “twice murders the victim, in both life and in posterity,” according to the Times of Israel.
