French-Jewish teen who joined Syrian jihadists may not be only Jew in Islamic State

( Days after a report indicating that a Jewish teenager from France has left her country to join jihadists in Syria, a French government official said that there are likely a number of Jews among more than 1,000 French citizens who have joined the Islamic State terror group. Some of those Jews have reportedly converted to Islam.

Although there is not enough evidence to classify this as a trend, the issue has become a major concern to the French Jewish community.

If the Jewish girl did join the Islamic State, "it really is the end of the world,” Meyer Habib, a Jewish member of the French parliament who indicated that the case might not be isolated, told Israel’s Channel 2.

"It is inconceivable that this would happen," added a French rabbi who was also interviewed by Channel 2.

"There are many rumors swirling and we hope an official source will update us. Some say the Jewish girl converted, and that is also disconcerting,” said the rabbi.
