(JNS.org) While the United Nations Security Council continues to mull a Palestinian resolution for a U.N.-imposed Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, a Palestinian Authority (PA) minister is articulating the PA’s desire to take over the entire land of Israel.
The U.N. resolution, submitted Dec. 17 and backed by Jordan, calls for Israel to withdraw by the end of 2017 from territory it acquired in the 1967 Six-Day War. But according to Palestinian Media Watch, Mahmoud Al-Habbash—PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s top advisor on religious affairs—said in several recent sermons that the PA has much broader territorial goals.
“The entire land of Palestine (all of Israel) is waqf (an inalienable religious endowment in Islamic law) and is blessed land... It is prohibited to sell, bestow ownership, or facilitate the occupation of even a millimeter of it,” Al-Habbash said, the official PA newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported in October.
