( The Israeli defense electronics firm Elbit Systems announced that it has created a system to detect terror tunnels that run under the Israel-Gaza border.

Elbit developed the system together with the Israeli Defense Ministry and other partners. The system uses sensors to detect tunneling activity, after which the information is analyzed by a series of algorithms to determine the location of the tunnels. The system is already operational along parts of the Israel-Gaza border.

“The tunnel threat for us is a threat on the community’s morale… I hope [the new detection system] will help to save lives and of course to improve our day-to-day routine here,” said Amit Caspi from Kibbutz Kerem Shalom, which was directly threatened by Hamas tunnels during Israel’s war with the Palestinian terrorist group last summer, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
