(JNS.org) Christians in Jerusalem marked Good Friday on March 25 with a procession through the Israeli capital's Old City, amid heightened security given the ongoing wave of Palestinian terror attacks.
Several thousand Christians celebrated the day Jesus was crucified by following the path he took carrying his cross to his execution. Given the crowds, Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirmed that a larger number of officers were deployed in Jerusalem.
Most Palestinian Christians are Orthodox and celebrate Easter on May 1 this year, but those who are Catholic or follow other Western church traditions celebrate the holiday this weekend. Christian tourists also participated in the procession, such as Carl-Leo von Honenthal, a 31-year-old German Protestant pilgrim.
“It is very beautiful to be here with people peacefully walking together from all over the world,” von Honenthal said, AFP reported.
