Pezaro, 29, who was born in Kibbutz Yizre'el, suffered a vascular complication in her spine and became paralyzed from the waist down. In spite of this, she began swimming at five, becoming a professional, competitive swimmer by 12. She made her Olympic debut in Athens in 2004.

Her latest bronze medal is her ninth Paralympic medal overall. Israeli athletes have won an impressive 380 medals – 124 of which are gold medals - over the last 14 Paralympic games, Yedioth Achronoth reported.
