(Israel Hayom/Exclusive to JNS.org) India on Tuesday carried out a successful test of the Israeli-developed Barak 8 defense system. The test was held at a military base in Odisha, in eastern India.
Barak 8 is a surface-to-air missile defense system designed to intercept any type of airborne threat, including aircraft, anti-ship missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, helicopters and fighter jets, from a distance of up to 70 kilometers (43 miles).
Additional test are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, an official with India's Defense Research and Development Organization told local media.
According to the official, "Apart from missiles, the system includes surveillance, radar, guidance and warning systems," which will improve Indian air defense capability to neutralize airborne threats.
