(JNS.org) President Donald Trump slammed the “embarrassing” Iranian nuclear deal, while accusing Tehran of destabilizing the Middle East, in his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday.
“The Iran deal is one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the U.S. has ever entered into to. Frankly, that deal was an embarrassment to the U.S.,” Trump declared to the international body filled with world leaders.
The president took Iran to task for its destabilizing behavior in the Middle East, saying that Tehran “speaks openly of mass murder, death to America and the destruction of Israel,” while also exporting “violence, bloodshed and chaos” throughout the region.
“Rather than use its resources to improve Iranian lives, its oil profits go to Hezbollah and other terror groups that kill innocent Muslims and attack their Arab and Israeli neighbors,” Trump said.
Iranian funds also “shore up [Syrian President] Bashar Assad’s dictatorship, fuel Yemen’s civil war and undermine peace in the entire Middle East.”
“Iran’s government must stop funding terrorists,” Trump declared.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who met with Trump Monday afternoon, praised the president’s speech.
"In over 30 years in my experience with the U.N., I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech. President Trump spoke the truth about the great dangers facing our world and issued a powerful call to confront them in order to ensure the future of humanity,” Netanyahu said.
