Jewish News Syndicate is hiring experienced full-time news editors for its bureaus in Israel and the United States.

The news editor will be responsible for driving round-the-clock news coverage, through the identification of important stories to cover as determined by the news cycle, the needs of the Jewish community, and processing of numerous pitches from reporters and third parties. The news editor will assign stories to a stable of staff reporters and freelancers, and will assist reporters in a supervisory role to ensure stories are covered in a timely fashion with high-level original source quotes. Assignments will often be made in collaboration with colleagues and supervising editors. The news editor will collect articles, edit them for content and structure, prepare them for copy editing, and publish stories on JNS.org website, newsletters and social media channels. The news editor will also write bylined articles on an ongoing basis as an active reporter in the bureau.
Candidates must possess deep knowledge and understanding of issues of major importance to U.S. Jewish community, Israel and Jewish communities around the world, and be able to acquire newsworthy information from various sources across relevant communities, Jewish communal professionals, lay leaders and politicians. Candidates should possess high-level contacts across the Jewish world and demonstrate an ability to forge and maintain such contacts.

Candidates must be able to consistently identify anti-Israel bias in articles typically found in mainstream media and recognize the unique positioning of JNS in the Jewish media marketplace.

Candidates must have significant newsroom experience and be ultimate team players who are able to work well with reporters, colleagues and third parties. Candidates must be consummate professionals and multitaskers, able to calmly prioritize and responsibly juggle a constant flow of demands on tight deadlines.

Mother tongue English and a lengthy writing/editing portfolio is required. Hebrew proficiency is required for the Israel bureau position, and preferable in the U.S. Strong social media presence/experience is a major plus.
Candidate in the U.S. may work remotely. JNS maintains an office in Jerusalem, but a significant portion of the work may be performed remotely.

Staff Writer at Jewish News Syndicate (JNS.org)

Jewish News Syndicate is hiring experienced full-time or freelance staff writers for its bureaus in Israel and the United States.

The staff writer will compose a combination of full-length articles with original source quotes, shorter news briefs and/or any other type of corporate or marketing content, as assigned from assigning editors in regular shifts throughout each day.  Most of the stories will be determined by the news cycle and the needs of the Jewish community.

Candidates must possess deep knowledge and understanding of issues of major importance to U.S. Jewish community, Israel and Jewish communities around the world, and be able to acquire newsworthy information from various sources across relevant communities, Jewish communal professionals, lay leaders and politicians.
