Air raid-sirens were activated in three communities in the northern Jordan Valley on Wednesday night, warning of a possible drone intrusion.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that alerts were activated in Shadmot Mehola, Rotem and Maskiot, sending some 1,500 civilians running for shelter. “The details are under investigation,” the IDF said.

Shortly afterward, the army’s Home Front Command announced that the incident in the Jordan Valley was over, without elaborating further.

The possible aerial attack came as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella organization composed of several Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias under the command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed to have launched a drone toward the Jordan Valley.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Kan News broadcaster reported on Wednesday night that the military has raised the alert level ahead of a possible attack by the Islamic Republic or its terrorist proxies, including those in Iraq.

IDF officials held situational assessments on Wednesday against the background of Donald Trump’s re-election as president of the United States and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the Kan News report added.

Israeli and U.S. intelligence show Iran is planning a major attack against Israel from Iraq in retaliation for Israel’s Oct. 26 retaliatory strike against the Islamic Republic, U.S. and Israeli officials have told the Axios outlet.
