U.S. President Joe Biden will not seek re-election this November and is stepping aside for another Democratic candidate for the White House, the 81-year-old president announced on Sunday.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president, and while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my
term," Biden stated.

The president promised to address the American people "later this week" and explain his decision further.

The president, who has faced increasing calls to quit the race from his own side of the aisle since a widely-criticized performance at a debate with former president Donald Trump, noted that hist decision as nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as his vice president.

"It’s been the best decision I’ve made," he stated. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats—it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this."

"America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today," Biden added.

Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for president, and is certainly not fit to serve—and never was."

"He only attained the position of president by lies, fake news and not leaving his basement," Trump wrote. "All those around him, including his doctor and the media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being president, and he wasn’t—and now, look what he’s done to our country, with millions of people coming across our border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions and record numbers of terrorists."

Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California who has been discussed as a potential Democratic candidate to challenge Trump, wrote that Biden "has been an extraordinary, history-making president—a leader who has fought hard for working people and delivered astonishing results for all Americans."

"He will go down in history as one of the most impactful and selfless presidents," Newsom wrote.

Earlier in the day, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump's running mate for vice president, wrote that "If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining president?"

"Not running for reelection would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as commander-in-chief," Vance wrote. "There is no middle ground."

Lyndon B. Johnson was the last U.S. president to announce—on March 31, 1968—that he wasn't seeking re-election, 295 days before his term ended. Harry S. Truman did the same on March 29, 1952, which was 297 days prior to his term ending.

Biden's announcement comes 183 days before his term ends.

Naomi Biden wrote that her grandfather "has served our country with every bit of his soul and with unmatched distinction."

"Not only has he been—and will continue to be—the most effective president of our lifetime, but he has likely already cemented himself as the most effective and impactful public servant in our nation’s history," she wrote. "He has been at the center of, and had a material impact on, literally every single major issue that our country and world has faced for 50 years. Our world is better today in so many ways thanks to him."

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, wrote that the president is "an American hero, a true statesman and he'll go down in history as one of the greatest champions of working families our nation has ever known."

Ben Shapiro, co-founder of the Daily Wire, wrote that the idea that Biden is a "selfless hero" ignores "the simple fact that if Joe Biden were up in the polls, there would have been zero pressure for him to get out, and he never would have dropped, no matter how senile he is."

U.S. tech giant Nvidia is significantly expanding its presence in Tel Aviv, taking over 10 additional floors in the Rubinstein Twin Towers (TOU Towers) complex on Yitzhak Sadeh Street, Calcalist reported on Wednesday.

This brings the company’s total footprint in the 34-story tower to 18 floors—more than half the building—with a total office area of approximately 22,000 square meters. Based on market estimates, the lease is valued at around 100 million shekels ($27.7 million) through 2032.

Despite continuing to operate under a flexible work model and not requiring employees to return to the office full time—unlike other big tech firms—Nvidia is making this major real estate commitment. The new offices are expected to be operational by the end of the year. As in Nvidia’s current offices, catering services will be provided by Machneyuda Group, led by chef Asaf Granit.

This expansion comes amid broader growth for Nvidia in Israel, which now serves as the company’s second-largest R&D hub after the United States, with around 4,500 employees. That’s about half the workforce of Intel Israel, long considered the country's largest private employer. Nvidia currently has approximately 150 open positions in Israel, according to LinkedIn.

Tel Aviv is Nvidia’s second-largest site in the country, after its campus in Yokneam, which employs around 3,000 people. The Yokneam site is built on the former headquarters of Mellanox, which Nvidia acquired in 2020 for $7 billion. Nvidia also maintains smaller offices in Ra’anana, Tel Hai and Beersheva, near the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

This expansion became possible after Google canceled its lease for many of the 10 floors that Nvidia is now occupying. Google had signed the lease about four years ago but never moved in, following a global restructuring that included layoffs in Israel. Instead, Google has since committed to a much larger space—60,000 square meters over 20 floors—in the under-construction TOHA2 tower near the first TOHA building close to Tel Aviv’s HaShalom train station.

Nvidia’s local operations are overseen by Amit Krig, a senior vice president at the company. The latest real estate move underscores Nvidia’s continued investment in Israel as a strategic hub for its global operations, particularly as it leads the global push in artificial intelligence.

Some 10 hours after a gunman shot and killed two Israeli embassy staffers as they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum, located less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol and some 1.3 miles from the White House, some U.S. politicians decried not only Jew-hatred but also "all forms of hate."

Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) stated that the killing of the two Jews was "sickening."

"My heart is with their families and the entire Jewish community as we mourn this tragedy," the congresswoman stated. "Today and everyday, I remain committed to fighting antisemitism and all forms of hate in our communities."

Dave Min, a California state representative and a Democrat, stated that he was "horrified by the loss of innocent life" and that he was "praying for their loved ones."

"We must always stand up to antisemitism and all forms of hate," he stated. "Our country is better than this."

"Sickening," stated the Nassau County Young Democrats, of Garden City, N.Y. "Violence, antisemitism and all forms of hate have no place in our society."

Scott Jennings, a conservative political commentator, stated that "if Biden or Harris were president, we'd be getting a scolding right now for this epidemic of Islamophobia." (JNS has reported that Islamophobia often had to chaperone antisemitism in Biden administration statements.)

Andrew Cuomo, the former New York governor who is running for mayor of New York City, stated that "Israeli embassy staff Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim were murdered in cold blood in a shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., while multiple others were injured."

"New York City stands strong with our Israel brothers and sisters," Cuomo stated. "As we gather facts, we remind the world that New York will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel and against hate, terrorism and antisemitism in all its forms."

"I'm going vote for you, but why did you have to say all forms of hate?" a social media user wrote to the former governor. "Why couldn't you have just said antisemitism?"

A marketer came to Cuomo's defense. "He said antisemitism in all its forms. Not all forms of hate," the person wrote. "There's a difference there. We are sadly seeing antisemitism in way too many forms."

American Jewish groups issued statements in the hours after a gunman shot and killed two Israeli embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, who planned to marry.

The couple was killed at about 9 p.m. outside the Capital Jewish Museum—where the American Jewish Committee was holding an annual Young Diplomats reception—located about three quarters of a mile from the U.S. Capitol and a little more than a mile from the White House.

"We are devastated that two cherished friends and partners from the Israeli embassy were shot and killed as they left an American Jewish Committee event," stated Ted Deutch, the CEO of the AJC. "This is a shocking act of violence and our community is holding each other tighter tonight."

"While we wait for the conclusion of the police investigation—and urge all our friends and allies to do the same—it strongly appears that this was an attack motivated by hate against the Jewish people and the Jewish state. This senseless hate and violence must stop," Deutch said.

The AJC leader thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration and district Mayor Muriel Bowser and her staff "and all other relevant law enforcement and government officials in D.C and nationally for their swift action and support."

The Jewish Federations of North America stated on Wednesday night that it was "horrified" by the news that two people had been killed. "Our hearts go out to the victims and to our colleagues at AJC, whose event was being held at the museum," it stated.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington stated that it is "horrified by the shooting" and mourns "the loss of the two individuals killed in the attack."

"The safety and security of our community is our top priority," the Federation said.

Matt Brooks, the CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, condemned the attack "in the strongest possible terms."

"Those responsible for this heinous attack must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and we have full confidence in the Trump administration to deliver swift and righteous justice," Brooks said. "Since Oct. 7, we have seen a dramatic spike in lawlessness, violence, sickening antisemitism and anti-Americanism from coast to coast, on our college campuses and on our streets."

"This horrific attack requires complete, total and forceful condemnation from everyone. Silence is not an option. It is complicity," Brooks stated. "This a blaring warning to all Americans, across the political spectrum, that the world’s oldest hatred continues to plague our society, and we must stand together to confront it wherever and whenever it appears."

Sacha Roytman Dratwa, the CEO of the Combat Antisemitism Movement, stated that "this murder didn't happen in a vacuum, but is the direct result of the incessant hatred by those who call to 'globalize the intifada.'"

"For those who wondered about the context of whether a particular chant was hate speech or antisemitic, this is what it looks like when physically manifested," he stated. "We have warned about the growing violence of the far-left, and now it seems that our deepest fears have come true."

"The murderer did not know his victims were Israeli. He just knew they attended a Jewish event," he added. "When we say that the antisemites don't hate Jews because of Israel, but rather, they hate Israel because it is the Jewish homeland, this is what we mean."

Vlad Khaykin, executive vice president of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, stated that the center is "horrified" by the shooting and that "violence against Jews must never be normalized."

"Make no mistake," the Anti-Defamation League stated, "this was an attack on the Jewish community."

"This shooting strikes a nerve, because it comes after an unrelenting, ongoing campaign of hate and harassment targeting the Jewish community simply because of who we are and what we believe," stated Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO and national director of the ADL.

Seventy percent of Israel's Arabs, or some 1.5 million citizens, do not see "Israeli" as being their primary or even secondary identity, according to a survey published by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

The poll, which asked respondents to self-identify, said that only 3% of Arabs define themselves as Israeli citizens first, with 27% saying that their citizenship of the Jewish state defined their secondary identity.

The majority of respondents (56%) said they primarily define their identity as Arab, followed by 25% who defined themselves as Muslim first.

Three percent gave their main identity as Palestinian, while 11% said they felt Palestinian second, the study found, adding that the reliability of the latter statistic was relatively low.

Since the start of the Swords of Iron war on Oct. 7, 2023, there has been growing radicalization among segments of the country’s Arab minority.

Israeli Security officials have investigated more than 80 cases involving Arab citizens. There have reportedly been 26 cases of Israeli Arabs swearing allegiance to Islamic State and other terrorist groups.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) detained over 170 citizens for questioning in cases involving national security in 2024, according to Hebrew reports.

In the 17 months since Hamas launched its terrorist invasion from Gaza, at least 15 Jews have been murdered by Arabs with Israeli citizenship or legal residency status. The figure includes Arabs of eastern Jerusalem, who hold legal residency status and are able to apply for a passport.

poll conducted in 2023 by the Israel Democracy Institute's Center for Democratic Values and Institutions found that one third of Arab citizens disagreed with the statement that Hamas's Oct. 7, 2023, massacre "does not reflect Arab society, the Palestinian people and the Islamic nation."

A June 2024 survey found that some 14.7% of Arab Israelis believe that Hamas should govern Gaza after the war,  in direct opposition to one of Jerusalem's key war aims. That represents approximately 308,700 Israeli citizens out of an Arab Israeli population of around 2.1 million.

A pro-Israel Swedish member of the European Parliament, Alice Teodorescu Måwe, was verbally and physically attacked by a civil servant from the Left group in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday.

The incident happened as the E.U. assembly was debating the situation in Gaza.

In Sweden, Teodorescu Måwe is a member of the Swedish Democrats, which is part of the governing coalition, and in the European Parliament, she is a member of the European People’s Party.

While initial reports of the incident were contradictory, European Parliament spokesperson Delphine Colard indicated that the assessment "confirmed the MEP’s version of events’,’ as a CCTV surveillance camera was in operation in the part of the legislature where the incident occurred.

The incident started when the Left staff member, reportedly a Swede of Middle Eastern descent, photographed and filmed the Bucharest-born MEP.

"When Alice asked the person to explain his actions, the person claimed that they intended to publish the images on social media to ‘tell the world what a terrible person’ Alice is,” Natalie Tegelberg, secretary of the Swedish Democrats, told Swedish press agency TT.

According to Tegelberg, Teodorescu Måwe asked if it was OK to take a picture of the civil servant, “who then became aggressive and tried to take the phone out of Alice’s hand with violence. In the tumult, the official began shouting and made baseless accusations of assault against Alice.”

The situation quickly calmed down when guards arrived. Everything was caught on the parliament’s surveillance cameras, according to Tegelberg.

Teodorescu Måwe, who left Brussels after the incident, said she will report it to the police and to the parliament’s security department.

Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch of the Christian Democrats party said she is “disturbed” over the incident. "I sat down with a shaken Alice. No one should have to fear for their safety,” she wrote on X.

"It is political activism in a threatening and hateful manner,’’ she added.

Tomas Tobé, an MEP for Sweden’s Moderate Party, wrote on X: "We have seen open antisemitism in the Left Party, and yesterday’s incident goes in the same direction.”

Earlier this week, Teodorescu Måwe stated that recognizing the Jewish homeland should be a prerequisite to obtaining Swedish citizenship. In an entry on her blog titled "No left-wing Nazis on our streets," she called for stricter requirements for obtaining Swedish citizenship in response to the rise of antisemitic slogans at pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

“To obtain Swedish citizenship at all, it should be required that the person who wants to become a Swedish citizen also recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist,” she wrote.

Newcomers should “embrace the Judeo-Christian values on which Swedish democracy is based,” she said, adding that non-citizens who incite violence and threaten the Jewish minority should be deported immediately.

Teodorescu Måwe is a member of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with Israel, where she leads the fight against overt antisemitism, and Jew-hatred masquerading as anti-Zionism.

Last October, she hosted an event at the European Parliament to commemorate one year since the Oct. 7, 2023, massacres.

“Anti-Zionism is antisemitism,” Teodorescu Måwe said. “Criticism of Israel has replaced direct attacks on Jews, but the intent remains the same.”

The Israel Defense Forces on Thursday issued an urgent evacuation order to Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza, instructing residents of Beit Lahia, Jabalia and surrounding neighborhoods to move south immediately as it expands "Operation Gideon’s Chariots" against terrorist infrastructure.

According to IDF Arabic-language spokesman Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the evacuation applies to civilians in the neighborhoods of Ghaben, Al-Shemaa, Fadous, Al-Manshiya, Sheikh Zayed, Al-Salateen, Al-Karama, Beit Lahia Project, Al-Zuhur, Tel Al-Zaatar, Al-Nour, Abdel Rahman, Al-Nahda and Jabalia Camp.

https://twitter.com/AvichayAdraee/status/1925492865687228888

"The IDF is operating forcefully in these areas, where terrorist organizations continue their activities," Adraee said on X. "In light of this, the IDF will significantly expand its military operations in these areas."

“The areas where you are located are dangerous combat zones,” he warned. “The terrorist organizations have brought disaster upon you. For your safety, evacuate immediately to the south.”

"Operation Gideon’s Chariots," launched earlier this month, is a wide-scale IDF campaign targeting the last Hamas and Islamic Jihad strongholds across the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday reiterated that Israel’s current military campaign in Gaza is aimed at establishing lasting security control throughout the entire Strip.

“At the end of this campaign, all of the territories of the Gaza Strip will be under Israel's security control,” said Netanyahu.

He further stated that the war would continue until Hamas is disarmed and Israel can guarantee full security control over Gaza. Netanyahu stressed that the leadership of Hamas must exit Gaza and that the territory must be completely cleared of weapons.

The prime minister also linked the ongoing campaign to post-war planning, referencing a U.S.-backed framework.

“We [will] implement [President] Trump's plan, it is a good plan and makes a difference, and it means something very simple, that the residents of Gaza who want to leave can leave,” Netanyahu added

Below is the full text of the remarks delivered by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar during a press conference at his Jerusalem office following the May 21 murder of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, D.C.:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJLgpaBHZWk

Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, two young representatives of the State of Israel, were murdered a few hours ago in a horrific terrorist attack in Washington.

My condolences go to their families, and to the staff of the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C.

I spoke this morning with Daniel, Yaron's father. I told him that his son was a warrior on our diplomatic front that fell just like a soldier on the battlefield.

Yaron and Sarah were murdered at a Jewish conference of the AJC.

This is the direct result of toxic antisemitic incitement against Israel and Jews around the world that has been going on since the Oct. 7 massacre.

Recently, we have witnessed an unprecedented wave of terror attacks and attempts against Israeli missions around the world, with an emphasis on Europe.

Israeli missions and representatives around the world are targets of antisemitic terrorism that has crossed all red lines.

I spoke about this recently on our Remembrance Day at a ceremony for fallen foreign service members.

I have been worried for the past few months that something like this would happen, and it did. And the list of fallen foreign service members has grown today.

The Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem and Israeli missions around the world will lower our flags to half-mast following the murder of our workers.

My heart today is also with the employees of the Foreign Ministry. They are struggling daily with difficult conditions on the diplomatic front.

I am proud to lead these devoted people. They serve the country. Are identified with the country. Symbolize the country.

They are subjected to harsh and poisonous attacks and words.
Today, two of them were shot by a terrorist.

There is a direct line connecting antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement to this murder.

This incitement is also done by leaders and officials of many countries and international organizations, especially from Europe.

The words are the modern blood libels.

These libels about genocide, crimes against humanity and murdering babies pave the way exactly for such murders.

The global atmosphere has endangered Israeli and Jewish blood. This is what happens when leaders in the world surrender to the Palestinian terrorist propaganda—and serve it.

Their statements and attacks blame Israel, instead of Hamas.

Hamas started the war on Oct. 7, is solely responsible for the war's continuation and is solely responsible for the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians alike.

I say today to these leaders and officials: Stop your incitement against Israel, stop your false accusations, strengthen Israel in its historic battle against the axis of evil in the Middle East.

I spoke several times this morning with our ambassador to the United States, Dr. Yechiel Leiter.

I thank him for how he represents us in the United States. I thank him also today for the way he is supporting the embassy employees in these moments.

I also spoke with our dear friend, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.

Ambassador Huckabee updated me on the intensive investigation underway by several government agencies into this act of terrorism.

The most senior officials in the American law enforcement system are closely monitoring this investigation. We appreciate this.

Terrorism is chasing us everywhere, but we will not surrender to terrorism.

Since Oct. 7, Israel has been engaged in a battle on multiple fronts. We are fighting against those whose goal is the elimination of the Jewish state. We, who swore "Never again!," will not allow this to happen.

This is an opportunity to announce a conference against antisemitism that we will lead in Jerusalem next week, part of Israel's presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

The conference will be attended by foreign ministers and other ministers of IHRA member states. It will also include envoys for combating antisemitism, and representatives of Jewish communities from these countries.

The new antisemitism is also rising today on campuses, in the media, and on social networks. We are committed to fighting it with all our might. We thank the partners we have in the world for this fight.

To the Israeli people, I say this morning: Hold your heads high. No other nation would have stood with such courage, dedication and resilience in what we have been through and are still going through during the last year and half.

Let us try to strengthen the unity among us—so that we continue to stand successfully in the historic struggle that has been forced upon us.

Am Yisrael Chai!

Sarah Lynn Milgrim, the American woman who was murdered on Wednesday with her Israeli partner, Yaron Lischinsky, when a terrorist opened fire at an event in Washington's Capital Jewish Museum, was a graduate student at American University School of International Service and has worked tirelessly to promote peace between Israel and its neighbors before she joined the Israeli embassy.

The shooter, identified as Elias Rodriguez, apparently wanted to kill Israelis or Jews at the American Jewish Committee event hosted by the museum. He shouted "Free, Free, Palestine," according to those at the scene.

Milgrim spent five weeks in Israel researching the role of friendships in peacebuilding for her final master's project, according to a LinkedIn post she shared two years ago. She focused on the experiences of 12 Israeli and Palestinian participants in a seminar organized by Tech2Peace at Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, a Jewish-Arab village halfway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, documenting their stories and the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Her work built on a stint with Tech2Peace the previous summer, where she developed a passion for capturing the stories of participants.

"While working for Tech2Peace last summer, I fell in love with documenting the amazing stories of their participants, and I knew I needed to do more," Milgrim wrote. Her project aimed to show how personal connections could contribute to peacebuilding efforts.

Milgrim expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to Tech2Peace, emphasizing the sense of community she found there. "It was an honor to rejoin Tech2Peace and their amazing community, where I made new life-long friends while doing work that is so important to the region," she wrote. She thanked Hela Lahar and the Tech2Peace staff for their warm welcome and acknowledged American University School of International Service for supporting her travel.

The LinkedIn post received positive engagement, with comments from peers reflecting admiration for her work. Stephanie Khoury, a biomedical engineer and seminar participant, commented, "We are lucky that you have joined our seminar. Good luck with your master degree." Milgrim responded, "Thank you so much, Stephanie!"

Another commenter, Isaiah Anthony Luna, who works in international affairs and sustainability, wrote, "So proud of you, Sarah!" to which Milgrim replied, "Thank you, Isaiah ❤️."

Tech2Peace is a nonprofit that brings together young Israelis and Palestinians to collaborate on technology and entrepreneurship projects, in an effort to foster mutual understanding.

Prosecutors in the United Kingdom charged a rapper from Northern Ireland with a terrorism offence in connection with a video allegedly showing him draped in a Hezbollah flag.

Liam O’Hanna, known as Mo Chara, is to stand trial, allegedly for supporting the U.K.-designated terrorist organization during a 2024 performance in London, police said on Wednesday.

According to the Metropolitan Police, O’Hanna is accused of displaying a flag “in support of a proscribed organization” while performing with his Irish band Kneecap, which made headlines last month for projecting “F*** Israel, free Palestine” at the Coachella music festival in California.

The charge follows renewed scrutiny after two controversial videos resurfaced online on April 22. One shows a band member shouting, “The only good Tory is a dead Tory” and “Kill your local MP.” In the other, a performer—alleged to be O’Hanna—is seen apparently wearing a Hezbollah flag and shouting, “Up Hamas, up Hezbollah.”

Both videos are under investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command, The Jewish Chronicle reported.

Kneecap has denied supporting terrorist groups or advocating violence, stating it does not "support proscribed terror organizations" and does not "advocate for violence against anyone.”

O’Hanna, 27, from Belfast, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrate's Court on June 18.

Organizers of next month's Glastonbury Festival in England are under pressure from performers and celebrities to remove the Kneecap trio from its lineup due to the controversies surrounding the group. Kneecap has threatened to sue music industry figures who have allegedly called for their exclusion from the event.
