Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee slammed on Saturday a report by The Jerusalem Post citing a “Gulf diplomatic source” saying that President Donald Trump is set to declare U.S. recognition of a Palestinian state “without the presence of Hamas.”
The original reporting was by Ali Hussain in The Media Line and reprinted by The Jerusalem Post.
The Jerusalem-based outlet “needs better sources than this unidentified ‘source,’” Huckabee tweeted.
“My 4 year old grandson Teddy is more reliable. And take it from Teddy. This report is nonsense. Israel doesn’t have a better friend” than Trump, the American diplomat said.
Huckabee on Friday dismissed reports of a rift between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“It’s reckless and irresponsible for press to allege that” Trump and Netanyahu “are not getting along,” the ambassador wrote on Friday. “Bibi has spent more time with Trump than I have in the past 3 months and I’m his ambassador! The relationship between the US and Israel remains STRONG!”
A report by Israel Hayom claimed that Trump is increasingly distancing himself from Netanyahu, citing sources close to the U.S. president saying he is “disappointed” in the prime minister and has decided to “advance moves in the Middle East without him.”
