An Israel Defense Forces soldier was moderately wounded overnight Monday by shrapnel during a counterterrorism operation in the Palestinian village of Nur Shams, near Tulkarem in northwestern Samaria.
Troops came under “massive fire” during the mission, and responded in kind, the military said.
The soldier was wounded when a bomb was thrown in his direction. He was evacuated to the hospital and his family was notified.
The Israeli forces detained two wanted Palestinians suspected of involvement in terrorist activities and interrogated several additional persons during a wide sweep of the area.
Overall, five Palestinians were arrested during operations across Judea and Samaria.
Earlier this month, an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded in Nur Shams during an exchange of fire.
Before the shootout, IDF troops arrested a wanted man in the village and confiscated improvised weapons, weapon parts and military equipment.
Also overnight Monday, Israeli forces mapped for demolition the Nablus home of the Hamas terrorist who murdered three members of the Dee family last month.
Lucy Dee, 48, and daughters Maia, 20, and Rina, 15, were shot and killed on April 7 while driving on Route 57 near the Hamra Junction.
Hassan Katnani and fellow terrorist Muad Masri were shot dead earlier this month in an exchange of fire that broke out after Israeli forces surrounded their hideout in Nablus’s Kasbah (Old City).
Israeli forces also mapped for demolition the Nablus home of Hasam Bassam Bashir Aslim, who directed the killing last October of IDF Staff Sgt. Ido Baruch.
Baruch was securing a civilian march near Shavei Shomron in northern Samaria when he was shot from a moving vehicle. He was evacuated to Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, where he died of his wounds.
Earlier Monday, Israeli troops came under attack on Route 60 near Kiryat Arba in Judea. The soldiers returned fire and a search was initiated for the assailants.
A military ambulance was damaged but no injuries were reported.
