“No student should be afraid on a university campus, especially because of their race or religion. Sadly, for too many of our Jewish students today, that is not the case,” said Gov. Mike DeWine in a Nov. 29 letter outlining concrete steps to take to improve safety for students.
Noah Shack, vice president at the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, urged the Toronto District School Board to take “immediate, meaningful and reparative action to fix the rot of anti-Semitism, particularly with its Human Rights Office.”
Since 2015, the U.N. General Assembly has passed 115 resolutions condemning Israel and only 45 against other countries.
“We apologize for the distress that our miscommunication has caused the Jewish community on campus, and we understand their concerns,” said the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union.
“Unfortunately, Facebook inexplicably rejected our ads, presumably because they contain the words ‘hate’ and ‘anti-Semitism,’ ” said Mark Freedman, interim president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Broward County.
“We removed 141 Facebook accounts, 79 Pages, 13 Groups and 21 Instagram accounts from the Gaza Strip in Palestine,” announced Meta’s head of security.
William Daroff, CEO of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, applauded the opportunity U.S. President Biden took “to speak about the scourge of anti-Semitism facing our nation and to shine a light on anti-Semitism is a message that all of America must hear.”
The virtual celebration took place on the third night of Hanukkah; it ended with a menorah-lighting at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
“Red Notice,” in which the Israeli actress stars alongside Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, racked up more than 328 million viewing hours as of Dec. 1.
The Dec. 2 program included a talk by a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terror group in both Canada and the United States.
“We have to take it seriously every single time. Because we don’t know whether it’s just somebody trying to shock or whether it’s truly a sign that something that is dangerous to the physical safety of our students is coming,” said Rabbi Marley Weiner.
