Jews all around the world are gathering together to celebrate the holy Days of Awe, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. On these days, Jews declare loyalty to the Creator in Heaven and stand in judgment for our actions over the past year.

On Rosh Hashanah, we acknowledge that health, achievements, prosperity and even morality all come from a higher source. This annual exercise channels blessings to all areas of our lives.

With close to 14 million Jews worldwide, the blessings we channel on these holidays are not only individual; they are collective. And they are not reserved only for members of the Jewish faith—they are for all of humanity.

This critical spiritual work, accomplished on the High Holidays, is just one of the functions of the Jewish people’s role as a “light unto the nations.”

Jewish mysticism teaches that leaders of other nations around the world would come to Jerusalem during the weeklong holiday of Sukkot—just days after the conclusion of Yom Kippur—to give peace offerings in celebration of the Jewish people’s intense spiritual work and to activate their portions of the Godly blessings. Today, more nations than ever before—including longtime enemies—are becoming friends of the Jewish state.

Yet for all the lovers and supporters of the Jewish people, there are still bitter opponents.

Despite all the good Israel and the Jewish people contribute, the spiritual disease of anti-Semitism is spreading. Modern anti-Semitism manifests itself both in violent attacks against Jews around the world, as well as assaults on the Jewish peoples’ character and Israel’s legitimacy.

The State of Israel has built up the powerful Israel Defense Forces to defend against the threats of physical warfare. Yet other entities are needed to fight against the narrative warfare confronting the Jewish people.

Over the past several years, Jewish News Syndicate has emerged as a major force to counter misinformation peddled against Israel and the Jewish people. JNS sets the record straight with high-quality, fact-based reporting and informed analysis.

The three major pillars of spiritual work the Jewish people engage in during this High Holiday period are teshuvah (return to God), tefillah (prayer) and tzedakah (charity).

Despite all the challenges, God has blessed the Jewish people with so much good. On this Rosh Hashanah, let us first be grateful, and return to God by uniting with our fellow Jews in love and respect. Let us pray for the continued success of the Jewish people to be a force for good in the world. And may we share our blessings by giving generously to worthy Jewish causes.
