The fate of Israel’s legal reform effort will have global implications

International reporting of the Netanyahu government’s judicial reform package has largely followed the Israeli media’s coverage. And since the Israeli media is leading the campaign to prevent the government from advancing its efforts, rather than provide honest coverage of the events, international audiences are confused about what is being debated.

Last week, I sat down with historian Lord Conrad Black in Toronto to discuss the nature of the reforms. As Lord Black noted, Israel’s progressive elite’s use of the court system to advance its programs against the will of the Israeli public parallels similar efforts by progressive elites throughout the Western world. So the success or failure of the government’s reform package will have implications for free societies across the world.
