The Israel Heritage Foundation’s executive vice president, Rabbi Dr. Joseph Frager, and executive director, Rabbi David Katz, have warmly welcomed the two new chief rabbis to Israel’s Rabbanut, or “rabbinate.” This significant event occurs every decade with elections appointing two rabbis: one for Sephardim and one for Ashkenazim.
Rishon Letzion Rabbi David Yosef will lead the Sephardic sector of the country, while Netanya Rabbi Kalman Ber will guide the Ashkenazic sector. Both are renowned leaders and scholars who will uphold Jewish tradition and promote positivity.
Katz emphasized the importance of having great Jewish Orthodox leaders to decide and enforce laws regarding conversion, marriage and divorce, following Orthodox tradition.
The Israel Heritage Foundation has been actively supporting Israel during these challenging times. Katz recently visited Israel amidst the Gaza conflict to boost morale and provide assistance. The foundation has also been instrumental in distributing funds to those in need and sponsoring events to support Israeli soldiers.
“We’re thrilled to have Rabbi Yosef, a distinguished leader and son of a revered giant in our generation, continue his father’s [former Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Ovadia Yosef] legacy,” said Katz. “Rabbi Ber, formerly chief rabbi of Netanya, brings unparalleled expertise. Both rabbis embody an unwavering commitment to upholding Orthodox standards, and we look forward to their inspirational leadership.”
The new rabbinic leadership in Israel comes at a critical time for the Jewish state, facing existential threats and conflicts. The Israel Heritage Foundation’s support and the rabbis’ guidance will be crucial in promoting unity and strength among the Jewish community.
Frager and Katz wish rabbis Yosef and Ber luck and blessings in their new roles.
The Israel Heritage Foundation is America’s pre-eminent bipartisan pro-Israel organization, dedicated to supporting Israel and promoting Jewish heritage.
