To mark 570 days since the outbreak of the Swords of Iron War, University of Haifa unveiled an oversized hostage pin, on Monday, as a powerful call for the return of the 59 hostages still in Hamas captivity.
The exceptionally large hostage pin—one of the largest displays ever presented in Israel—stretches approximately 295 feet (90 meters) in length. It was carried by university staff members standing on either side, together forming the symbol of hope for the hostages. During the event, the names of the hostages were read aloud, accompanied by a fervent call for their immediate return to their families.
The pin, which has become a central symbol of the public campaign for the hostages’ return, represents hope, solidarity and unity. The display reflects University of Haifa’s commitment to stand with the families and to strengthen public discourse on this issue. It is also part of the school’s commitment to freedom, responsibility and mutual support, which are at the heart of its academic mission.
“Through this installation, we sought to make our unequivocal stance clear: We must not rest until every hostage is home,” said University of Haifa president, professor Gur Alroey. “I have met with the families of hostages and pledged to them that University of Haifa will do everything in its power to strengthen the public campaign and commitment to their return. The university community stands shoulder to shoulder with the families and with all citizens of Israel, hoping for the day when everyone comes home safely.”
