Throughout her public life, the conservative firebrand has been an outspoken supporter of Israel and as visited numerous times to show solidarity. She did so again for the U.S. embassy opening.
Israel summoned the Turkish consul general in Jerusalem and informed him that he was expelled, following Turkey’s expulsion of the Israeli consul general from Ankara.
“When [the United States] opened their embassy in Jerusalem, there was a need for a decision from our side—and this was our decision,” said Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman met with leaders of the White House Faith Counsel Initiative the day after the celebratory opening of the new American embassy in Jerusalem.
Hamas coordinated riots to coincide with the opening of the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, ordering the closure of schools and businesses, and providing free transportation for all those willing to join the riot on the border.
“Just as President Truman made history then, Trump has made history now—thanks to his leadership, almost exactly 70 years to the minute since the rebirth of the Jewish state, the American Embassy officially opened in Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel,” declared Pence.
Beitar Jerusalem thanked the president for recognizing Jerusalem and moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the capital, saying it would now be called “Beitar Trump Jerusalem.”
Knesset member Zeev Elkin looked forward to the international community recognizing Jerusalem as the Jewish capital, and to those who do not, he said: “My answer to these voices saying there is no Jewish connection here is obvious—read the Bible. Look at the archaeological evidence. If we believe in truth, the truth will win.”
Christians United for Israel’s founder and chairman Pastor John Hagee, who gave the benediction at the embassy ceremony, told JNS that he is “deeply proud” of his country and the president.
“Today, we follow through on this recognition and open our embassy in the historic and sacred land of Jerusalem,” U.S. President Donald Trump said in a video greeting.
In a five-minute video titled “Tel Aviv Is Also a Land of Muslims,” Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri called on Muslims to carry out a jihad against the United States in response to America’s decision to move its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“Over 35,000 Palestinians are currently taking part in violent riots along the security fence. The rioters are hurling firebombs & explosive devices, burning tires, throwing rocks & attempting to ignite fires in Israeli territory,” the IDF Spokesperson Unit said in a statement on Twitter.
