Ben-Gurion University of the Negev last week awarded an honorary doctorate to Arizona State University President Michael M. Crow for his “visionary leadership.”

The announcement was made during the 54th annual BGU Board of Governors meeting, which ran from May 19-23.

Crow, with whom BGU has partnered for 15 years, is the co-author of “The Fifth Wave: The Evolution of American Higher Education,” which according to the school had inspired it to begin a “transformation into Israel’s first ‘Fifth Wave’ university.”

“We recognize Dr. Crow not only for his visionary leadership at ASU but also for his substantial influence on our strategies for advancing education and community development in the Negev,” said BGU President Daniel A. Chamovitz.

Crow said he was “deeply honored to receive this honorary degree” and that it was his “sincere hope that, as I have learned through this engagement, I have also contributed to the university and its work.”
