U.S. special envoy for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt said it is “cynical” to label U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as a move to boost Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election chances before the April 9 elections.

Russia, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Iraq criticize America and its president for recognizing the Golan as Israeli territory.
From Israel’s perspective, a government-led program to begin seriously populating the Golan Heights would go a long way to promoting the national interest.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, standing by U.S President Donald Trump’s side in the White House, called the decision a “historic justice” and a “diplomatic victory.”
“The fact that this announcement was made on the holiday of Purim, when we remember the Jews’ salvation in ancient times from an evil plot to annihilate them, added further joy to the day, and it was especially meaningful to hear President Trump address Israel’s need to safeguard its citizenry from those modern-day enemies who wish to destroy it,” said the National Council of Young Israel.
“After 52 years, it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The two will “will discuss their countries’ shared interests and actions in the Middle East” on March 25, followed by dinner the next day.
“I would also say that while no, it’s not true that Democrats hate Jewish people, [they did show] that as a party, they don’t hate the haters of Jewish people enough,” said presidential historian Gil Troy.
In response, the Jewish Democratic Council of America declared: “President Trump is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts,” said the group in a statement. “In this case, both are just WRONG.”
