Israel Aerospace Industries announced a new electronic welfare system to protect Israeli aircraft from surface-to-air missiles.

The new ELL-8270 system, developed by the ELTA division of Israel Aerospace Industries, is a decoy device tethered to Israeli aircraft that draws in incoming enemy missiles by means of a transponder system.

The new system is autonomous, lightweight, battery-perated and requires minimal pilot control, enabling aircraft to increase survivability over enemy territory. It can also deal with multiple threats simultaneously.

The technology will not replace current anti-missile systems, but will be added as an additional layer of protection to selected aircraft.
