The Israel Defense Forces decided on Tuesday to send two backup battalions and two companies made up of infantry and combat engineering soldiers, announced the Israeli military.
The decision followed an IDF situational assessment in the wake of a string of deadly terror attacks in Israel, two of which involved attackers who infiltrated from the Jenin area.
The IDF has in recent days stepped up its counterterrorism activities, focusing particularly on Jenin.
Israeli security forces arrested 20 terror suspects overnight on Tuesday in a series of raids, the IDF said earlier on Tuesday.
In a statement, the IDF said forces also conducted “extensive counterterrorism activity in Judea and Samaria based on accurate intelligence.”
On March 28, the IDF’s Judea and Samaria Division received four additional infantry after two deadly ISIS-inspired terror attacks in Israel.
The four battalions—from the Givati, Kfir, Nahal and Home Front Command Search and Rescue Brigades— cut short their training and took up positions in West Bank hot spots in order to prevent copycat attacks by ISIS-affiliated operatives in the area.
