Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) met at Netanyahu’s Jerusalem office on Aug. 27.

The two discussed “the major challenges and opportunities facing the U.S. and Israel, and the need to cooperate in the field of artificial intelligence,” according to a readout from the prime minister’s office.

Netanyahu also thanked Hassan for her “consistent support for Israel,” per the readout.

Laura Epstein, a spokeswoman for Hassan, told JNS that the senator met with Netanyahu as part of an official congressional trip to Israel this week. The trip included meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid, leaders of other Knesset parties, civil society organizations, and technology and security experts.

“Throughout the meetings, Senator Hassan emphasized her strong support for Israel,” Epstein told JNS. “Senator Hassan and Prime Minister Netanyahu discussed the need to work together to combat security threats, including from Iran.”

Hassan also “raised concerns about Israel’s judicial reforms and the importance of maintaining the two countries’ shared values and commitment to democracy,” Epstein said. “They discussed continuing to protect the strong U.S.-Israel alliance.”

The U.S. legislator also visited Yad Vashem, she added.

Netanyahu was joined by his chief of staff, the director of Israel’s National Security Council, his foreign-policy adviser and other officials. The acting U.S. ambassador to Israel and head of the political department at the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem also participated, according to the readout from Netanyahu’s office.
