Makom: The Israeli Education Lab has developed initiatives to support educators in engaging young American audiences.
“Jewish communities around the world grow closer by learning about each other’s unique customs and cultures,” said Sigal Kanotopsky.
The 74-year-old previously served as deputy Knesset speaker and a former spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces, most notably during the 1991 Gulf War.
“There is a responsibility to include all voices and to reach out to those who may not be there currently, whether it’s an age or generational lack of involvement,” said the head of the Nefesh B’Nefesh Institute for Aliyah Policy and Strategy.
“All the times we were here as tourists were a lot of fun, but you don’t know what it’s like until you put your skin in here. Once you do that jump of hope, you start seeing life in a new way, through Israeli glasses,” says Shira Denise Kilemnic Mac.
“We need to recalibrate the way we reach out to young American Jews. We need to reach them where they are on social media with a Zionist message they can understand,” said the former ambassador, one of eight candidates vying to be the next head of the Jewish Agency.
Some 20,000 “olim” have arrived from around the world this year, despite travel limitations imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Race for Jewish Agency’s leadership heats up
Despite the impressive list of candidates—the majority of which are women—there is reportedly no front runner yet.
So far, 20,360 people have immigrated to Israel, according to data released by Israel’s Aliyah Ministry and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
