Hebrew University of Jerusalem postpones start of semester by one week

Research, student exams will proceed • Affirms support to the Israel Defense Forces at “this challenging time.”

American Friends of the Hebrew University released a statement on Monday announcing the academic institution’s response to the war launched on Oct. 7 against Israel.

Hebrew University said that it affirmed “steadfast dedication to supporting the civilian population, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the security forces during this challenging time.”

Given that the school’s “utmost priority lies in ensuring the safety and well-being of the HU community,” administrators have chosen to delay this semester’s beginning by one week. Classes will now start on Oct. 22.

The statement noted that the university would continue its programs, such as pre-military leadership academies, and examinations.

“The Hebrew University extends their heartfelt gratitude to friends and partners around the world who have demonstrated unwavering solidarity during these challenging times,” stated the school. “The overwhelming support, messages of encouragement and gestures of friendship from international communities have been a source of tremendous strength.”

She has pledged to uphold her brother’s foreign policy legacy, including support for Israel, backing the Trump administration in the war against Iran and opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
