Senior Israeli official: Time to start over on new Iran deal

“We gave information to the Europeans that proved that the Iranians are lying while talks are still happening,” an Israeli official traveling with Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s delegation to Berlin told reporters.

A top Israeli official called on Europe and the United States to discuss demands for a “longer, stronger” nuclear agreement with Iran on Monday, saying current talks aimed at resurrecting a 2015 deal are dead in the water after Jerusalem supplied proof that Tehran was not forthcoming during negotiations.

“We gave information to the Europeans that proved that the Iranians are lying while talks are still happening,” the Israeli official traveling with Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s delegation to Berlin told reporters.

“There are no talks right now with Iran. There is no one in Vienna,” said the official.

“It’s time to start a strategic dialogue with the Americans and Europeans about a longer, stronger agreement,” added the official. “But what we need now is for the Americans to put a credible military threat, and everyone to push for a better agreement. We need an agreement without sunset clauses.”
