Despite anti-Semitism concerns, Linda Sarsour to speak at NYU

“A statement by NYU whitewashing Sarsour as a ‘racial justice and civil-rights activist’ is truly a slap in the face for the Jewish community and a dangerous omission of the truth.” said Aviva Rosenschein, international campus director for CAMERA.

Women’s March leader Linda Sarsour, known for her support of the anti-Israel BDS movement, is scheduled to speak next month at New York University.

Sponsored by the NYU Asian/Pacific/American Institute (APA), the March 25 event features her as “racial justice and civil-rights activist, known for her intersectional coalition work and efforts to build bridges across racial, ethnic and faith communities,” according to the announcement, which ignored extensive coverage of anti-Semitism affiliated with her and the Women’s March.

The APA did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Despite widespread coverage in the mainstream media of Linda Sarsour’s virulent anti-Semitism, NYU has decided to host her next month,” said Aviva Rosenschein, international campus director for CAMERA. “A statement by NYU whitewashing Sarsour as a ‘racial justice and civil-rights activist’ is truly a slap in the face for the Jewish community and a dangerous omission of the truth.”

She continued, “Will NYU also invite white-supremacist Richard Spencer and present him as a ‘human freedom and diversity activist?’ NYU’s sickening actions deliberately conceal Sarsour’s anti-Semitic rhetoric. The university holds direct responsibility for the proliferation of hatred and division on its campus.”

In December, NYU’s student government passed by secret ballot a BDS resolution calling on the university to separate its interests from firms such as Lockheed Martin, General Electric and Caterpillar Inc., which do business with Israel.
