Elie Abadie

The new Jewish house of worship is part of an interfaith complex that includes a mosque and a church.
Rabbi Dr. Elie Abadie describes “a neighborhood with a synagogue, private homes, condominiums, hotels, shopping centers.”
“Having moved to Dubai in 2014, it’s incredibly inspiring to see how Jewish life here in the Gulf is growing,” said co-founder and cantor of the Jewish Council of the Emirates Alex Peterfreund.
“While maintaining our independence, this new association allows us to pool our resources to the betterment of all Jews in the Gulf,” said Ebrahim Daoud Nonoo, president of the new group.
They were joined by Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.
Rabbi Dr. Elie Abadie hopes to establish a “fully-fledged community” with services, synagogues, lectures, weddings, schools, social services and a kashrut-certifying agency and more.
