Israel protests Chilean president’s visit to Temple Mount with PA officials

Chilean President Sebastián Piñera is on a three-day visit to Israel, during which he will meet with both Israeli and Palestinian officials.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry reprimanded Chile on Wednesday after Chilean President Sebastián Piñera visited the Temple Mount on Tuesday with senior Palestinian officials.

Palestinian Authority Jerusalem Affairs Minister Fadi al-Hadami was one of the officials, according to AFP.

Piñera is on a three-day visit to Israel, and is scheduled to meet with Israeli and Palestinian officials.

He met Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday. On Thursday, he is planning to meet Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Chile has the largest Palestinian community outside the Middle East.

Piñera also visited the Western Wall and Yad Vashem.

One professor who served on the committee that created the report said the Trump administration’s accusations of antisemitism at Yale “were a pretty serious exaggeration.”
“Amid the alarming rise in antisemitic incidents across Canada, this report represents an important contribution to the development of effective solutions,” the Israeli embassy in Canada stated.
“Activities specifically done to harass or intimidate people, especially as they’re entering into a religious institution to go worship, are unacceptable,” Rep. Tom Suozzi told JNS.
