A man in the United Kingdom was convicted of one count of malicious communication and two counts of racially aggravated harassment after calling for another Holocaust while harassing a Jewish writer, reported The Jewish Chronicle.
Nicolas Nelson, 32, sent multiple abusive emails to Jewish writer Lee Kern through anonymous accounts he created.
Kern, part of the Oscar-nominated writing team for Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat, Subsequent Moviefilm,” said in his emails that Nelson “called for another Holocaust, called me Shylock, spoke of Jews being used for gun practice, called Jewish women whores, shared perverted sexual fantasies involving Hitler and glorified the anti-Semitic terror organization Hamas.”
Nelson also sent harassing messages to communications strategist Joanne Bell and racially harassed a Board of Deputies staff member through a series of abusive phone calls between April and May 2020.
After Kern reported the emails to the Campaign Against Antisemitism, the nonprofit worked with a lawyer to obtain a court order that required an Internet service provider to reveal details about the account holder. The court order revealed Nelson’s identity.
Nelson was convicted on Monday at Peterborough Crown Court after pleading guilty. Sentencing is expected to take place on March 25. He faces a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine.
Kern called Nelson a “malevolent racist.” He told The Jewish Chronicle: “[Nelson] believed he was able to make these attacks on Jews with anonymity and impunity. He was mistaken. Justice will now be served. All those who think they can attack Jews anonymously and get away with it should pay heed.”
Nelson was previously convicted of racially harassing former British Labour Party parliament member Luciana Berger, who is Jewish.
