Justice Nancy Bannon stated that Fordham “did not abide by its own published rules governing the approval and recognition of student clubs,” and that the university’s own regulations don’t reference whether an organization is “polarizing.”
“[It] is deeply troubling—not only for its shocking omission of any mention of Jewish Americans or anti-Semitism or its blatant anti-Israel bias and praise of BDS, but for its clear attempt to politically indoctrinate students to adopt the view that Israel and its Jewish supporters are part of ‘interlocking systems of oppression and privilege’ that must be fought with ‘direct action’ and ‘resistance,’ ” said Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, head of the AMCHA Initiative.
Niles Township stated that the lesson wasn’t developed by the district, and that “the district was never going to provide continuing education credits or lane advancement credit for the course.”
The lesson, according to the course description obtained by JNS, “brings together critical educators who want to teach about Palestine and the Palestine liberation struggle.”
“Here at Cornell, the voices supporting BDS are getting more extreme,” said Cornell University senior Shir Kidron. “This campaign is making Jewish students here on campus feel unsafe and unwelcome.”
The focus of the three-day event was on educating and inspiring the next generation of advocates for the Jewish state.
Following the vote, student government president Gilbert Orbea sent an email to Swarthmore president Valerie Smith and the board of managers, stating that the vote was “not a repudiation of the Jewish faith or of our fellow Jewish and Israeli students.”
“I will not stay low-key when I see anti-Semitism. I will always be respectful, but I will not be quiet. If anyone sees it another way, I challenge you to question your ethics and truly ask yourself where you stand,” said WFU Hillel Israel chair Phillip Yurchenko.
School officials receive 112 pages of a group chat consisting of a dozen students that included photos of a human swastika, according to Ojai Unified School District superintendent Andy Cantwell.
“It is disturbing that the International Socialist Organization, an off-campus group, was heavily involved in this campaign,” said Ron Krudo, executive director of campus affairs for StandWithUs.
“In this executive order, Kentucky follows 25 other states in protecting its citizens from becoming de facto participants in discrimination and anti-Semitism,” said StandWithUs CEO Roz Rothstein. “We commend his leadership at a time when we see anti-Semitism rising.”
“It seems the problem is only getting worse as a result of this campaign of hate that has been launched by JVP and SJP on campus,” said Rena Nasar, tri-state campus director of the organization StandWithUs.
