The trip is part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure campaign against Iran,” and it increases “safeguards to further restrict terrorist groups from gaining access to the global financial system,” per the department.

“President Trump has made clear that Iran’s destabilizing and terrorist activities must be met with sustained and coordinated pressure,” Hurley stated.

Jason Brodsky, policy director at United Against Nuclear Iran, told JNS that “this trip is important, as the U.S. delegation will likely discuss entities and individuals of concern with the United Arab Emirates and Turkey who are using their jurisdictions to help Iran, Hamas and others evade sanctions.”

“That is why sanctions enforcement is critical and ensuring as many countries around the world as possible are cooperating with the newly-restored U.N. sanctions on Iran,” he said.

This appears to be Hurley’s first official trip to Israel since assuming his role in July.
