The Association of Gulf Jewish Communities has arranged for the shipment of 775 pounds of matzah to be distributed through the region, a nearly 20% increase as compared to Passover last year.
The Association of Gulf Jewish Communities is shifting its focus away from an influx of Israeli tourists and towards the more permanent future of a Jewish presence in the Gulf region.
JSG (“Jewish Singles in the Gulf”) debuts with a website offering participants to fill out a questionnaire and receive recommendations.
“The atmosphere was euphoric as we sat around the chuppah, which symbolizes the new home being built by the couple,” said president of the Association of Gulf Jewish Communities Ebrahim Dawood Nonoo.
The online event will include a panel discussion on how interfaith co-existence is propelling the GCC region forward.
“At the end of the ceremony, the ‘El Malei Rachamim’ prayer was held and candles were lit in memory of the victims,” says local Jewish organization the House of Ten Commandments.
For the first time ever, the Jewish communities of Bahrain and Dubai will be participating in the Yellow Candle Project.
Also arranged is the shipment of nearly 650 pounds of matzah to the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries, along with other Passover food.
“Having moved to Dubai in 2014, it’s incredibly inspiring to see how Jewish life here in the Gulf is growing,” said co-founder and cantor of the Jewish Council of the Emirates Alex Peterfreund.
“While maintaining our independence, this new association allows us to pool our resources to the betterment of all Jews in the Gulf,” said Ebrahim Daoud Nonoo, president of the new group.
