U.S. President Donald Trump is the greatest friend that Israel and the Jewish people have ever had in the White House. Still, some are concerned that there has been no action on Iran.
The ayatollahs are the most devious, conniving and untrustworthy cabal in the world. They have perpetrated terrorism against America and Israel in the form of proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. They have funded and encouraged university riots and protests in cities across the world.
Regime change in Iran should be the goal. Iran is a paper tiger, and some have said its nuclear facilities can be destroyed in two days. This is especially true since Israel wiped out its air defenses last October in retaliation for Iran’s launch of 180 ballistic missiles against Israel earlier that month. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the time that it had “severely damaged Iran’s defense capability and its ability to produce missiles.”
Trump is against war and has made that point many times. He also believes in peace through strength. Under the direction of U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Washington ran some 1,000 missions against the Houthis in Yemen. The terror group recently waved the white flag, and the president accepted its response. Yet the Houthis continue to fire missiles at Israel. It seems that to stop the Houthis from attacking, Israel may have to do more than destroy the airport in Sana’a and the port city of Hodeidah. They may have to copy America’s blueprint.
Of course, all the missiles ultimately emanate from Iran, the “head of the snake.” Trump has made overtures to the mullahs. He has also imposed a campaign of “maximum pressure” with sanctions on the regime’s banks and oil exports. Initially, Iran refused to meet, but that was just a head-fake. Three meetings were subsequently held; a fourth was canceled. One more is scheduled to take place this week in Oman.
It appears that the Iranians are up to their old tricks; however, the president will have none of it. When I spoke with him last year and asked if he thought Iran already had a nuclear weapon, he said that they could always buy one. (My sources say they do not yet have a nuclear bomb but are awfully close.) I believe this is the basis for him wanting to make a deal with Iran. Publicly, he has said that if Iran won’t make a deal, “there will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.”
Trump has made clear that he “would prefer a strong, verified deal.” Then again, speaking on “The Hugh Hewitt Show,” he said: “Well, we could, actually, blow’em up. Blow’em up, or just de-nuke ’em.”
Most people would prefer that America and Iran strike a deal similar to the one that then-President George W. Bush made with Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi on Dec. 19, 2003. At the time, Libya had a decades-old nuclear program; it was completely disarmed after the agreement.
If the mullahs know what is good for them, Iran will sign a similar agreement. Instead, the Islamic Republic is making one demand after another. They act like their proxy Hamas, which, despite being severely degraded, has the gall to continue making demands in an effort to remain in power.
At some point, Trump will likely become frustrated by the antics of the Islamic Republic. He does not like being double-crossed. And unless regime change happens along the way, it is likely that either Israel or America—or both—will take out Iran’s nuclear capabilities. It cannot happen soon enough.
