Israelis took advantage of the national holiday on election day by spending big bucks, according to data released by Automatic Bank Services Ltd.
Israelis spent more than $113 million on their credit cards between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Tuesday, a 38% increase compared to the same time period during the March 2021 vote, according to the Israeli financial technology and credit card service company.
Data showed the busiest period was right before noon, with approximately 11,500 transactions per minute.
“The jump in spending compared to the last election, which took place a year and a half ago, reflects the continued growth in the use of credit cards and digital wallets as convenient and common means of payment for Israelis,” a company representative told Israeli media.
