In response to a pair of rockets fired from Syria at the Golan Heights on Saturday night, Israel launched coordinated airstrikes against multiple Syrian army locations in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Starting at 4:10 a.m., Israeli helicopters and jets struck two artillery batteries, an air-defense unit, and multiple observation and intelligence outposts, as well as weapons caches and a military facility south of Damascus connected to Iran.
Three Syrian soldiers were killed and seven wounded in the strikes, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that it “sees the Syrian regime as responsible for all attacks against Israel from Syrian territory.”
Reports conflict as to whether one of the missiles landed inside Israel, but alarm sirens were not activated due to the rockets’ calculated trajectories taking them away from populated areas.
“We are not prepared to tolerate rocket fire at our territory and will respond with great force to any aggression against us,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “This has consistently been my policy and this is what we will continue to do for Israel’s security.”
