Israel is preparing a financial compensation package for western Negev residents in the wake of the recent conflict with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid announced on Sunday.
“Together with the Finance, Defense, Interior and Agriculture Ministers, we are submitting to the Cabinet today an immediate assistance and compensation package,” said Lapid during the weekly Cabinet meeting.
“This government will not disappear from their lives as soon as the firing stops. We have sat with the local authority heads from the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip, and the package being submitted today is the result of working with them,” he said.
During Israel’s “Operation Breaking Dawn” against Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Aug. 5-7), the Gaza-based terror group launched approximately 1,100 rockets at Israeli communities in the Gaza region.
“The resilience and adherence to directives of the residents of the south allowed us freedom of action and the ability to make decisions in order to achieve quiet and strengthen Israel’s deterrence,” said Lapid.
