Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana on Sunday expressed his gratitude to New York Mayor Eric Adams, after the latter announced he was bowing out of the city’s mayoral race.

“Eric Adams chose NYC over his ego, trying to save it from the crazy communist,” Ohana said on X, referring to front runner and anti-Zionist Zohran Mamdani.

Adams was polling fourth after Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, according to the New York Post. Thus his exit from the race improves the chances of Cuomo and Sliwa, considered the more moderate candidates.

Israelis will never forget Adams’ “powerful words” following the Hamas-led invasion and massacre in Israel’s western Negev on Oct. 7, 2023, wrote Ohana.

“Thank you for being a beacon of light through very dark days, Eric Adams. God bless you,” said Ohana.

Michael Dickson, executive director of Stand With Us, a pro-Israel NGO, thanked Adams on Sunday for his “strong and consistent support for Israel and the Jewish community and for taking a stand against extremism.”

In a video announcement earlier on Sunday, Adams said it had been a source of “immense pride” to serve city residents. “Only in America. Only in New York,” he stated. “Thank you for making my story a reality.”

A state representative who identifies as a socialist, Mamdani secured the Democratic nomination for mayor. He has denounced the Jewish state repeatedly and has said that he would have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if the Jewish premier visits the Big Apple.

Former Democratic New York governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, stated, “We face destructive extremist forces that would devastate our city through incompetence or ignorance, but it is not too late to stop them.”
