Despite sharing an interest in limiting Iran’s entrenchment in Syria, Russia has developed ways to express displeasure to Israel that include allowing weapons transfers, according to a new report.
The Alma Center said Russia has a range of ways to transmit messages of displeasure to Jerusalem over Israel’s “gray zone” campaign against Iranian targets, despite sharing an overall interest in Syria.
Suspects from inside Israel arrived to pick up a bag containing five MP5 submachine guns and M-16 ammunition.
The smuggling operation is being run by a member of Hezbollah’s 133 Unit, which is responsible for establishing a terror infrastructure in Israel, according to the Israeli military.
The fragmentation-type grenades were likely intended for use in crowded civilian areas, say police; Hezbollah’s role is under investigation.
The immediate suspect is the Hamas presence based in Lebanon, though it could also be Fatah or Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
“At the moment the military effort is more focused in Judea and Samaria in Gaza. If necessary, we’ll fight in Lebanon too,” says Brig. Gen. Ran Kochav.
The rocket landed in an open area and no sirens were triggered; Israeli artillery targeted the launch site and an “infrastructure target” was also hit, according to the IDF.
“Lebanon must not allow Hezbollah to negatively influence regional security and stability,” says Gilad Erdan.
Hezbollah-affiliated media outlets reported that the sides discussed events in the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, along with the future of the conflict with Israel and the political situation in the Middle East.
