Students for Justice in Palestine
Samar Maqusi was filmed telling students to “draw their own narrative” on the claims Jews killed a priest in Damascus for his blood.
A spokeswoman told JNS that the organization is now on disciplinary probation.
Leo Terrell, who chairs the U.S. Justice Department’s task force on Jew-hatred, said the anti-Israel student group is forcing Jews to “choose between defending their Zionist identities or observing their religion.”
“Resolutions voted on by the Student Government Association are student-led and reflect perspectives of voting members of the SGA,” a spokeswoman for the public school told JNS.
GMU has referred the video, which calls for a “full liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea,” to the state’s attorney general.
The groups requested information on the university’s investments and contracts with Israel-connected companies, such as Dell and Raytheon.
Rory Lancman, of the Brandeis Center, told JNS that the decision is “significant” since it draws “some clear lines in the sand.”
The chapter, already on probation, violated multiple policies by causing “a disruption” on campus in April, a university spokesperson told JNS.
“I am appalled that members of our community would deface college property in this way, and I unequivocally condemn their actions,” the college president stated.
The decision came after SJP was issued a temporary suspension ahead of a planned “Palestine Liberation Week.”
Maher Bitar, a former U.S. National Security Council staffer who was a leader of Students for Justice in Palestine, is back in the Jewish senator’s office.
The state’s prosecutor said that American Muslims for Palestine has ignored a Civil Investigative Demand, making it “necessary to ensure accountability and uphold the law.”
