“The NEA owes educators, parents and the public a full explanation and a sincere apology,” Steve Rosenberg, of the North American Values Institute, told JNS.

An email sent by the National Education Association—the largest labor union in the United States—to its approximately 3 million members with resources for “teaching about indigenous peoples” included a map that “erases Israel completely,” according to the North American Values Institute.

The resources also included items with “links to terror organizations” and those that “peddle in antisemitic conspiracy and defense of Oct. 7,” according to the nonprofit institute in Washington, D.C.

Steve Rosenberg, Philadelphia regional director for the institute, told JNS that it’s “deeply troubling that the nation’s largest teachers’ union would promote materials trafficking in antisemitic tropes and attempts to rationalize the atrocities of Oct. 7, let alone elevate groups that glorify terrorism.”

“At best, this reflects an organization that failed to meet its own standards of critical review and responsibility,” Rosenberg said. “That’s an inexcusable lapse for any institution entrusted with shaping young minds.”

Per the institute, the union removed the material from the landing page of its resource site.

“Quietly deleting the evidence isn’t transparency or accountability,” Rosenberg told JNS. “The NEA owes educators, parents and the public a full explanation and a sincere apology.”
