Motive unknown in car ramming at entrance to Atlanta FBI facility

Several FBI special agents detained a man after he sought to drive into an FBI facility in Atlanta around noon on Monday.

“He was not associated with this facility,” the FBI’s Atlanta division stated. “His motives at this point are not known.”

The man was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. “Currently, we are looking into both state and federal charges,” the FBI stated.

It added that bomb technicians and agents checked the car for explosives.

Dramatic photos and videos of the incident showed a red SUV smashed up against a pop-up yellow-and-black striped barrier designed to stop unauthorized entries.

“Peter Ellis, the assistant special agent in charge, told reporters that the driver had attempted to enter the facility by following behind an employee vehicle before hitting the barrier,” per the New York Post. “Ellis declined to comment on whether or not there is any indication that the incident was part of a terrorist attack.”
