In the heart of Jerusalem stands Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, a beacon of memory and education dedicated to the Six Million Jews who perished during the Holocaust. Established in 1953 by the Israeli Knesset, Yad Vashem has been entrusted with the sacred task of preserving, documenting, researching and educating about the Holocaust to ensure that such atrocities never recur.

The Yad Vashem USA Foundation, a new nonprofit organization in partnership with Yad Vashem, plays a critical role in preserving the memory of the Holocaust in the United States. Established with the mission of strengthening the connection between American society and Yad Vashem’s work, the foundation works to ensure the lessons of the Holocaust are passed down to future generations. Through a range of initiatives, including educational programs, commemorative events and philanthropic efforts, the foundation extends the reach of Yad Vashem’s impact in the United States, solidifying the importance of Holocaust remembrance on a personal and collective level.

As we move further away from the events of World War II, the number of living Holocaust survivors decreases. Their first-hand testimonies, which have been instrumental in educating generations, are becoming increasingly rare. This natural passage of time places a growing responsibility on institutions like the Yad Vashem USA Foundation to preserve and share these stories. The foundation’s efforts to support the collection of survivor testimonies, curate educational programs and conduct research are vital for keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive for future generations.

The partnership between Yad Vashem and the Yad Vashem USA Foundation will also help foster a deeper sense of responsibility among Americans to combat antisemitism and intolerance. The Yad Vashem USA Foundation will seek to engage diverse communities, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue and reflection. This inclusive approach ensures that the memory of the Six Million Jewish victims serves as a catalyst for positive change worldwide.
