One Israeli dead and four injured while visiting India

An Israeli woman was killed and four more Israelis were injured on Monday after the vehicle carrying the group swerved off a mountain road in northern India and plunged into a valley.

An Israeli woman was killed and four more Israelis were injured on Monday after the vehicle carrying the group swerved off a mountain road in northern India and plunged into a valley.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry identified the fatality as Adva Ben Dahan, a 36-year-old from Givatayim who was taking a personal vacation after being fired from the human-resources department of the Teva pharmaceutical company.

The accident took place in the Spiti Valley in the Himalayan mountains on a dirt and gravel road. The vehicle apparently swerved off the road and plunged 400 feet down the slope, breaking into pieces.

The injured Israelis were taken to a hospital norther of Delhi in the town of Kullu.

Israel’s ambassador to Delhi, Eli Sneh, is in contact with the group and is preparing to evacuate them home to Israel. One of the injured is in serious condition, but was reported to be conscious and talking.

Israelis are known for their propensity to travel around the world, especially following the completion of their military service. India is one of their most popular destinations.
