Conference of Presidents drops civility complaints between longtime members
“The enforcement process results in more communal division than unity, and significant time and resources,” said William Daroff, CEO of the Conference of Presidents, in a statement.
HaShevet is “dismayed at the diminishing effectiveness of mainstream Jewish advocacy organizations in North America.”
HIAS wants ZOA and CAMERA disciplined for criticizing them. ZOA fires back saying HIAS has no place in a Conference that is reserved for groups with a Jewish mission.
A letter penned by more than 200 Jewish “student leaders” states that ZOA national president Mort Klein should be reprimanded for “a pattern of racist and Islamophobic behavior.”
A webinar hosted by ZOA president Mort Klein presented objections to Lob and alleged that, in reprisal, a number of member organizations have called for ZOA’s ouster from the big-tent group.
Lob, who formerly served as chair of HIAS, garnered a little more than half of the support of member organizations. Past chair votes had been approved unanimously.

A roll-call vote of member organizations to approve the nomination is scheduled to take place via Zoom on April 28.
“For the first time in history, we had to cancel all of our summer tours to Israel. Our teens will not be able to go to Israel, and that is very tragic for sorts of reasons,” Simon Johnson, chief executive of the Jewish Leadership Council in the United Kingdom.
