Arkia expands New York service amid flight cancellations by US carriers

Israel’s second-largest carrier will now offer five weekly non-stop flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport, as well as business class on some of its flights.

Israeli airline Arkia announced on Wednesday that it is expanding service to New York to meet growing consumer demand, amid repeated cancellations by U.S. carriers due to ongoing regional instability.

Arkia will now operate five weekly non-stop flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. For the first time, the airline will offer a business-class option on some U.S.-bound flights. Business-class tickets are priced at $1,750 round trip—significantly lower than competitors—while economy fares start at $1,200.

Arkia, Israel’s second-largest carrier, launched its New York route earlier this year.

United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are expected to resume flights to Tel Aviv in the coming weeks, after briefly suspending operations following last week’s Houthi missile attack near Ben-Gurion Airport. American Airlines has not resumed service to Israel since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault.

The shortage of transatlantic flights during the 19-month-old war has opened a major opportunity for Arkia, which has extended its New York service through at least October.
