The Hebron Hills Regional Council of Israel’s Judea region on Monday signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nassau County, N.Y.
The agreement was concluded at the Nassau County Executive Building in the presence of Hebron Hills Regional Council head Eliram Azulay, the council’s international liaison, Ayala Bar-On, and its international spokesperson, Gabriel Boxer, the Hebron Hills Regional Council said.
The pact with Nassau County includes cooperation in education, economic, culture and security, among other fields, it stated.
“County Executive Bruce Blakeman expresses unwavering support for the Hebron Hills in particular and for Judea and Samaria in general,” per the statement. “We are already planning the next steps to expand cooperation for the benefit of the communities in the Hebron Hills.”
Nassau County, located on Long Island just east of New York City, is home to some two million residents, including some 300,000 Jews.
According to figures from the 2023 UJA‑Federation of New York study, Nassau County accounts for roughly 15% of all people in Jewish households across the eight-county New York region.
Over the past years, Nassau County has signed similar agreements with the Binyamin Regional Council of southern Samaria, as well as the Samaria Regional Council of northern Samaria.
Blakeman told JNS in 2022 that these types of declarations display his area’s commitment to the Jewish state.
“We’re hoping to start implementing the agreement [with Samaria] this fall. We’re working on a wine trade show, showcasing Long Island and Israeli wines, and looking at other exciting things. It will be the same with Binyamin,” the local leader said.
