Mount Hermon, home to Israel’s only ski resort, will reopen to the public next week after being shuttered for 16 months due to the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, although skiing will be prohibited until next year due to damage to the site.

The snow-peaked compound will reopen its doors to visitors next Tuesday by prior reservation only, with limited access to a cable car, sleds and a snow sledding area for children.

Repairs to the ski lifts damaged by Hezbollah fire at the popular tourism site will be carried out over the summer.

Since the sudden fall of longtime Syrian leader Bashar Assad in December, Israeli soldiers have taken up temporary positions throughout Mount Hermon, including on the Syrian side of the strategic plateau, with the area declared a closed military zone until now.
